Fernando Alonso has moved to further aggravate Lewis Hamilton by declaring it was “extremely easy” to keep the British driver behind him during the Monaco Grand Prix. Hamilton was furious with Alonso’s slow pace in the race and had to settle for an eighth place finish, unable to overtake the Spaniard, who finished one spot ahead of him on the narrow streets of Monte Carlo.

Un Fernando Alonso satisfecho con el séptimo puesto en el GP de Mónaco explicó a AS por qué en el ‘rush’ final de la carrera su tiempo por vuelta le alejó del tren delantero. «No tenía ningún problema, las ruedas amarillas eran una preocupación porque quedaban 30 vueltas para el final, así que ahorré. Sabíamos que el ‘graining’ sería un problema así que tuve cuidado con las ruedas durante 15 vueltas y luego empujé las otras 15. Guardé dos o tres segundos. Destrozamos las ruedas el viernes, así que sabiendo que había un esprint de 33 vueltas, pensábamos que no teníamos ruedas para acabar la carrera. Esto es Mónaco y me encanta mantener a otros pilotos detrás», dijo. Justo tras él quedó Lewis Hamilton, siete veces campeón del mundo. No pudo hacer mucho para que Ocon, por detrás, se salvara de su penalización de cinco segundos: «Abrí el hueco de seis segundos, pero Hamilton no tenía ruedas para apretar, así que fue su problema.
