Longtime Red Bull team principal Christian Horner was fired abruptly on Wednesday after a 20-year stint that included eight Formula 1 drivers' titles and a rise to celebrity status.
MILTON KEYNES, England: Red Bull says Christian Horner has been released from his role as longtime team principal of its Formula 1 team. Red Bull did not give a reason for the decision in a statement Wednesday, but thanked Horner for his work and said he will “forever remain an important part of our team history.” Laurent Mekies of sister team Racing Bulls will replace Horner in his role as team principal and chief executive of the racing team. Horner had been Red Bull team principal since it entered F1 as a full constructor in 2005. He had performed his team and media duties as normal throughout the British Grand Prix last week. Horner oversaw eight F1 drivers’ titles — four for Sebastian Vettel and four for Max Verstappen — and six constructors’ titles during his time with the team.

Yuki Tsunoda stands just 1.59 metres (5ft 3in) but the racer who has joined Formula One world champion Max Verstappen at Red Bull is a strong personality who has tried to tame his temper to get his big chance. The 24-year-old will make his debut for Red Bull at his home Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka next weekend after the team ruthlessly axed underperforming Liam Lawson. Tsunoda was promoted Thursday from their junior team Racing Bulls (RB) after outshining the New Zealander in the first two race weekends of the season.
Red Bull have promoted their junior driver Isack Hadjar to partner Yuki Tsunoda at Red Bull's feeder team RB next season. The 20-year-old French rookie takes the seat vacated by Liam Lawson after the New Zealander was promoted to replace Sergio Perez alongside Red Bull's four-time world champion Max Verstappen for the 2025 campaign.
