BEIJING : The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) on Friday accused the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) of ignoring the world anti-doping code when it upheld the Russian anti-doping authorities' decision to lift the provisional suspension of Russian teenage figure skater Kamila Valieva at the Beijing Olympics.
BEIJING (AP) — The judges who let Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva continue to compete at the Beijing Olympics blamed anti-doping officials in a legal document published Friday for a “failure to function effectively.”
As the world watched 15-year-old Kamila Valieva fall apart while finishing out of the medals in the Winter Olympics women’s figure skating, another Russian took the spotlight for her off-the-ice behaviour.
International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Thomas Bach said it had been "chilling" to witness Russian teenage skater Kamila Valieva crumble under pressure at the Beijing Olympics in the wake of a doping scandal, hitting out at the 15-year-old's entourage on Friday. Valieva, who had been leading the women's figure skating event after the short programme, cracked in her free skate on Thursday night, and stumbled down to fourth place as her compatriot Anna Shcherbakova skated to gold.
International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach has launched a scathing attack on the team behind Kamila Valieva, the 15-year-old figure skater at the centre of a drugs probe who wilted under the global glare of the Winter Olympics in Beijing on Thursday night.
