England cricket team batter Harry Brook shattered Virat Kohli's record to achieve a sensational feat during the fifth ODI encounter against Australia on Sunday. Brook, who was appointed captain for the ODI series in the absence of the injured Jos Buttler, has been enjoying a brilliant run of form. The youngster slammed his maiden century in the third ODI to guide his team to victory and he followed it up with a gritty half-century. On Sunday, he slammed 72 off just 57 deliveries to take his tally of runs in the series to 312. That is now the highest runs scored by a captain in a bilateral series against Australia as Brook broke the record that Kohli achieved back in 2019. Ex-India captain MS Dhoni holds the third position in the list with 285 runs that he scored against Australia in 2009.
The countdown has begun for the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises to start working on their release and retention list. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the retention rules on Saturday, paving the way for the franchises to finalise the list of players they wish to keep ahead of the mega auction. The board has allowed franchises to retain a maximum of 6 players, either through direct retention or Right-To-Match card. However, with retention cost increased by the BCCI, striking the perfect balance between keep players and buying them through RTM in the auction, will be key to success.

ENG vs AUS 1st ODI Live Updates: England take on Australia in the first ODI of the five-matches series, starting Thursday. LONDON : England fast bowler Jofra Archer will play his first one-day international for 18 months in Thursday's clash with Australia at Trent Bridge, stand-in captain Harry Brook said on Wednesday.
England will continue with their policy of taking a cautious approach with the workload management for Jofra Archer in their upcoming five-match ODI series against Australia. Archer bowled just 3.3 overs in a rain-affected T20I series against Australia, ending on level terms at 1-1. The 29-year-old has been slowly integrated into England's set-up since recovering from his elbow injury. In 2024, he played two T20Is against Pakistan. He went on to feature in England's all-eight games in the T20 World Cup.
