Chase Against Pakistan Gave Us Belief: Afghanistan Captain Hashmatullah Shahidi

After scaling down a middling target against Sri Lanka with ease in a World Cup game on Monday, Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi attributed his team's confidence to its triumphant run chase against Pakistan. Afghanistan hunted down 242 against Lanka in 45.2 overs losing just three wickets to score their first World Cup win over the Islanders. The match Shahidi was referring to was Afghanistan's eight-wicket win over Babar Azam's side in Chennai on October 23, when they chased 282 losing just two wickets. “Pakistan chase gave us a lot of confidence and belief that we can chase any kind of target. We started really well in bowling (against SL) and the chase was very professional and I am very happy about it,” said Shahidi in the post-match presentation.

Cricket World Cup 2023 - "It Inspires Another Generation Of Players": Afghanistan Coach Jonathan Trott On Win Over Pakistan

The historic victory against Pakistan in the World Cup will inspire the next generation of Afghans to take up cricket, feels Afghanistan coach Jonathan Trott. Afghanistan notched up a memorable first-ever ODI win over Pakistan, prevailing by eight wickets, a little over a week after they stunned defending champions England. "I think it just shows the amount of talent in the side for the country again, as when we were fortunate enough to beat England," Trott said at the post match press conference on Monday.

Afghanistan Coach Jonathan Trott Hopeful Of Win vs Under-Pressure Pakistan

Head coach Jonathan Trott is hopeful Afghanistan can keep their World Cup campaign alive by pulling off a win against an under-pressure Pakistan, having come agonisingly close to defeating them earlier this year. The 42-year-old added that the passionate rivalry between the two teams, who are desperate to win, would make it an enthralling contest here on Monday.

Cricket World Cup - "Right At The Bottom...": Afghanistan Coach Jonathan Trott Blasts Team's Fielding After Loss To New Zealand

After a 149-run pummelling at the hands of New Zealand, a fuming Afghanistan head coach Jonathan Trott on Wednesday pointed out under-par catching as the reason behind his side's mauling here in the World Cup match. The Afghan fielders dropped as many as five catches at Chepauk, and the main beneficiaries were Tom Latham (68) and Glenn Phillips (71) as the reprieves helped the Kiwis duo to stitch together a 144-run stand for the fifth wicket.
