Manu Bhaker, Vijayveer Sidhu Win Final 25m Pistol Olympic Selection Trials

Olympian Manu Bhaker and Paris quota winner Vijayveer Sidhu won the fourth and final Olympic Selection Trial (OST) in 25m pistol events in Bhopal on Tuesday. At the M P State Shooting Academy, Manu, coached by the legendary pistol shooter Jaspal Rana, shot a world record-equalling 42 in the women's 25m Pistol OST T4 final, while Vijayveer shot 34 in the decider of the men's 25m rapid-fire pistol OST T4 to emerge triumphant. Manu displayed complete dominance in the trials, winning two and coming second in the other two.

One of the most recognisable faces in Indian shooting, Manu, who had also secured the quota for the 2022 Tokyo Olympics, shot 24 in the final, bowing out in a shoot-off to miss out on another international medal.

Jaspal Rana says 'boycott' British shooting products after sport's exclusion from CWG 2022

Till now, barring the 1970 Edinburgh edition of the Games, shooting always featured in the quadrennial event before the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) and the Birmingham organisers decided to drop the 'optional sport'. Rana, winner of four Asian Games gold medals (1994 Hiroshima and 2006 Doha) and the most successful Indian athlete at the Commonwealth Games (15 medals, including nine gold), feels that since the home team "cannot compete" with Indian marksmen, they are trying to "eliminate the sport" from the quadrennial games.
