Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Mumbai Indians hogged the limelight at the two-day long mega auction, spending the most for a player when they bought back Ishan Kishan for a whopping Rs 15.25 crore. Ishan Kishan is set to return to Mumbai Indians (MI) for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season after his services were acquired by the franchise for a whopping fee of Rs 15.25 crore. In the process, Kishan also became the most expensive buy of the IPL 2022 auction so far. Kishan, who made his IPL debut in 2016 with the now-defunct Gujarat Lions, had earlier been bought by the Mumbai Indians ahead of IPL 2018 season. He was, however, not among the four players retained by MI during the player retentions ahead of the IPL mega auction. The wicketkeeper-batter reacted to his big pay day by sharing his excitement at being able to return to MI.

India's rising star Ishan Kishan fetched a whopping $2 million (R30 million) in the auction for the Indian Premier League - the world's most valuable cricket tournament - on Saturday.
Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan on Saturday said that Mumbai Indians are looking at Ishan Kishan as a long-term prospect and this is the reason why they spent so much on the left-handed batter in the Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction. Mumbai Indians spent Rs 15.25 crore to get Ishan Kishan back in the squad. "He has the potential to be the future captain as well, not right now. They still have Keiron Pollard who can lead, Bumrah who is a leader himself, they have Suryakumar Yadav who could be the prospect for leadership as well. So, they want to invest for the next 5-7 years, that's why they went after Ishan Kishan so clearly and they knew that no matter what we needed to go back to Ishan Kishan," Pathan said on Star Sports' show 'Cricket Live -- IPL Auction Special'.
India and Mumbai Indians (MI) pacer Jasprit Bumrah left cricket fans scratching their heads after posting a cryptic tweet during the first day of the Indian Premier League 2022 (IPL 2022) mega auction in Bengaluru on Saturday. Bumrah took to Twitter to share a tweet that only contained emojis: a laughter emoji followed by a facepalm emoji. Bumrah was retained by Mumbai Indians as part of the player retentions ahead of the mega auction. The star Indian pace bowler was retained for a fee of INR 12 crore.
With Team India currently gearing up for the upcoming T20I series vs West Indies, white-ball captain Rohit Sharma took to social media to share a photo of his teammates following the IPL 2022 auction. In the photo which Rohit Sharma posted as his Instagram story, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ishan Kishan, Shardul Thakur, Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav could be seen in a hotel room with their eyes glued to TV screen. Kishan and Iyer looked happy in the photo and have already been picked by Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). MI splashed INR 15.25 crore on the wicketkeeper-batter, which also made him the most expensive buy in the ongoing auction. He overtook Iyer, who was earlier picked for INR 12.25 crore by KKR.
