Igor Stimac Show Caused By AIFF For Alleged Breach Of Agreement

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) on Saturday issued a show-cause notice to senior men's team head coach Igor Stimac for making comments construed as a breach of agreement by his employers. Hitting out at some of the ISL clubs for their unwillingness to release players for the national camp in preparation for the Asian Games, World Cup Qualifiers and the Asian Cup, Stimac said if Indian football needs his help, he will need to tell the truth. The former Croatian defender coming out in the open with his views didn't go down well with the AIFF brass, as they sought a response from the coach. "This is not just about the recent comments but it has been happening for a while now. He is in breach of his agreement with the AIFF. If he has any issues, he could have discussed it with the federation directly rather than going public," a source close to the AIFF told PTI.

Sunil Chhetri Rested As Igor Stimac Names 23-Member Squad For King's Cup

India will be without skipper Sunil Chhetri in the upcoming King's Cup football tournament and leading the forward line in his absence will be Manvir Singh. Star striker Chhetri has been rested for the tournament so that he could be present for the birth of his first child. The four-nation tournament, which will be played in knockout format, will be held in Chiang Mai, Thailand from September 7-10. Chhetri will however be back in the Indian team for the Asian Games. India team head coach Igor Stimac on Tuesday announced a 23-member squad for the 49th edition of the tournament. Manvir will have Rahim Ali and Rahul KP for company upfront. Brandon Fernandes and Suresh Wangjam return to the national side, which looks quite balanced even in Chhetri's absence.

India Football Coach Igor Stimac Not Ready To Predict Asian Games Outcome

Indian football head coach Igor Stimac is not sure where the country would finish in the Hangzhou Asian Games next month given the U-23 format of the quadrennial showpiece and with very little known about the opposing teams. Asked what finish at the Asian Games would satisfy him, Stimac said on Monday that while India does have a strong team, the fact that it is the only side having "not played a single game with the under-23s in the last two years" made predicting the outcome difficult.

With Chhetri And Stimac At Helm, AIFF Hoping For Strong Show In Asian Games

Indian football's "rapid strides in recent past" and an upsurge in public interest in the sport presented a "compelling case" for the inclusion of the men's and women's teams for the upcoming Asian Games, national federation president Kalyan Chaubey said. The participation of the Indian men's and women's football sides in the Hangzhou Games was earlier in doubt as per the sports ministry's criteria of sending teams which are ranked in top-8 in the continent.
