Zimbabwe have appointed former England batter Gary Ballance as a coaching consultant for a four-day test against their hosts in Nottingham this month, officials said on Tuesday.
Delhi Capitals (DC) mentor and former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen has expressed disappointment over young England batter Harry Brook pulling out of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Pietersen said Brook has technical flaws while facing spin in the subcontinent and he had hoped to help the 26-year-old improve. Brook had been bought by DC for Rs 6.25 crore in the IPL mega auction last year, but withdrew before the season began, citing the need to "recharge himself" before a busy season with the England team. Almost a month later, Brook was appointed as England's new white-ball captain, replacing Jos Buttler after the team's poor performances in recent ICC tournaments.
LONDON : England have named two uncapped players in Essex duo Sam Cook and Jordan Cox in the squad for the one-off test match against Zimbabwe at Trent Bridge later this month, with the cricket board (ECB) announcing the 13-player list on Friday.
Newly-appointed white-ball captain of England, Harry Brook, has opened up on his two-year ban from the Indian Premier League (IPL). Brook was bought by Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2025 mega auction for Rs 6.2 crore, but the batter pulled out of lucrative contract days ahead of the start of the tournament in order to be free and fresh to play for England. As a result, the player has been banned from entering the auction for the next two seasons.
Right-handed batter Harry Brook has been appointed as the new captain of the England men's white-ball teams. Brook succeeds Jos Buttler, who stepped down from the role following England's early exit from 2025 ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan. Brook had stood in for an injured Buttler as the England captain when the side played an ODI series against Australia in September last year. Brook had also captained England at the 2018 ICC Under-19 Men's World Cup in New Zealand. "It's a real honour to be named England's white-ball captain. Ever since I was a kid playing cricket at Burley in Wharfedale, I dreamed of representing Yorkshire, playing for England, and maybe one day leading the team.”
England's former World Cup-winning skipper Eoin Morgan revealed his two picks who could become Three Lions' white-ball captain following Jos Buttler's resignation from the position after a winless ICC Champions Trophy campaign. England has been on the lookout for a new white-ball skipper after Buttler stepped down from the role following a winless ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign and failed 50-over and 20-over World Cup title defences. Speaking to Sky Sports News, Morgan said, as quoted by ICC, "I think it is imperative that you will always have a target in mind. "With the recent form the side, particularly in white-ball cricket, has had, you cannot go out and all of a sudden try and win absolutely everything. You need to paint a picture moving forward as to what you are driving all of your energy towards."
England's Ben Duckett said it would be a dream to captain his country but the top-order batter has no idea if he is even in the running to replace Jos Buttler as limited-overs skipper.
The 18th edition of the Indian Premier League begins on Sunday, March 23, with the final scheduled for May 25. This year, the Pakistan Super League will overlap with the IPL, because it had to make way for Pakistan’s hosting of the ICC Champions Trophy.
