Skipper Hardik Pandya on Sunday blasted the Lucknow pitch as a "shocker" after India edged New Zealand by six wickets in a low-scoring second Twenty20 international to level the series at 1-1.
India's batting lacked fluency but a strong performance from their bowlers in the second Twenty20 international against New Zealand set up a six-wicket win in a low-scoring thriller in Lucknow on Sunday to level the series at 1-1.
Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand due to a back injury, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said on Tuesday. Iyer, who enjoyed a fine run of form in the recent past, will head to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) where he will undergo further assessment. The extent of the injury was not revealed by the BCCI and tests conducted by the NCA will reveal how long he will be out of action. Rajat Patidar was named his replacement for the series.
The BCCI on Friday announced Team India's squads for the upcoming white-ball series against New Zealand, as well as the first Two Tests against Australia. Hardik Pandya will lead the team in the T20I series against New Zealand, while Rohit Sharma will take charge of the team for the ODIs against the Blackcaps, as well as the four-match Test sereies against Australia. Prithvi Shaw, following his excellent run with the bat in the domestic circuit, was recalled to the side for the New Zealand T20Is, while Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan received maiden Test call ups.
NEW DELHI : The impact of Suryakumar Yadav's incendiary shotmaking makes batting easier for his India teammates, captain Hardik Pandya said after the team's T20 series victory against Sri Lanka in Rajkot.
Going ahead, India's new T20 captain Hardik Pandya is eager to see how his team tackles difficult situations as he seeks to mould it into an outfit capable of ending the country's barren run in world events. Under Hardik's leadership, India began the three-match T20 series against neighbours Sri Lanka on a winning note, prevailing over the islanders by two runs here on Tuesday. Hardik had to leave the field for a brief while after taking a catch.
Hardik Pandya will be expected to begin his full-time T20 captaincy tenure on a bold note as the Indian T20 team prepares to start its life beyond Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul with the three match series against Sri Lanka, beginning here on Tuesday. The followers of Indian cricket got more than glimpse of Hardik's vision for the team when led the team to victory in the rain-hit T20 series in New Zealand. In an ODI World Cup year, the shortest format is not priority for the Indian team but the series will allow Hardik to start planning for the future, specifically the 2024 T20 World Cup. India's famed top three -- Rohit, Kohli and Rahul -- are not part of the squad and irrespective of their T20 future , the team must prepare for life without them.
All-rounder Hardik Pandya will, in all likelihood, lead India in the upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka, scheduled to start from January 3 in Mumbai, according to a report. The second and third matches of the series will be held in Pune (January 5) and Rajkot (January 7). It is understood that Rohit Sharma's thumb injury might take some more time to heal. However, there is no clarity whether he (Rohit) will step down from the T20 captaincy or the matter put on hold for the time being.
