Shreyas Iyer is unlikely to make his comeback to the Indian Test side in the near future, feels former opener Aakash Chopra. Iyer, who last played a Test for India during the series against England at home, did not find a place in the squad for the first Test of the upcoming two-match rubber against Bangladesh. The 29-year-old also lost his central contract earlier this year after reportedly refusing to play domestic cricket, citing injury concerns. Last month, Iyer was recalled to the ODI side by new India coach Gautam Gambhir, but the player had a disappointing outing as Sri Lanka won a famous series.

After a long gap of 45 days, the Indian cricket team is set to return to action next week as they take on Bangladesh in the first Test of a two-match series in Chennai. Ahead of the series opener, the Rohit Sharma-led side assembled in Chennai on Friday, with head coach Gautam Gambhir leading a training session at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. The series will be Gambhir's first Test assignement since taking over as head coach from Rahul Dravid in July. Since making their Test debut in 1932, India have featured in 579 matches. While they have won and lost 178 games each, a total of 222 matches have witnessed a stalemate.

New Bowling Coach Joins Team India Practice Ahead Of 1st Test vs Bangladesh

It is back to business for Rohit Sharma's side following its much-deserved month-long break, as the team began its preparations in right earnest under new coach Gautam Gambhir here on Friday, for the upcoming two-Test series against Bangladesh. With the first Test against Bangladesh scheduled here from September 19, the entire squad, including Rohit and batting stalwart Virat Kohli, assembled at the MA Chidambaram Stadium with new bowling coach, South African great Morne Morkel, and batting coach Vikram Rathour also in attendance.

India skipper Rohit Sharma and batting stalwart Virat Kohli arrived here for the first Test against Bangladesh, scheduled to commence on September 19. Wearing a yellow jersey, Rohit was seen emerging from the airport escorted by security personnel, in a PTI Video on Thursday night, while Kohli came directly to Chennai from London in an early-morning flight. The likes of India pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul and wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant had earlier reached the city on Thursday.

Star India all-rounder Hardik Pandya on Thursday posted a video of himself bowling with the red-ball during a training session in England, triggering speculation over his return to Test cricket. The injury-prone all-rounder hasn't played Test cricket since September 2018 and underwent a lower back surgery in 2019.
