Kirsten mentored the Gujarat Titans to fashion themselves into a winning outfit in their very first season. Working alongside him, was allrounder and captain Hardik Pandya. The latter has left a telling impact on Kirsten after this trophy-winning season. "I've been impressed with Hardik Pandya. Not having known him well earlier, I've got a view on him now that he's this cricketer who just plays instinctively and takes the game on. He engages in a lot of cricket conversations and wants to learn, wants to get better and improve and understand his players," Kirsten told TOI as Pandya-led Titans ticked all the boxes to emerge 2022 IPL champions.
Gujarat Titans ended a magnificent debut Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign by winning the trophy, and among the key people behind their success was head coach Ashish Nehra. Gary Kirsten, the Titans' batting coach and mentor, was all praise for his colleague after the season ended and hailed him as one of the best tactical coaches in the league. Kirsten, of course, knows Nehra very well from his days as India's head coach. Kirsten was the coach, and Nehra a part of the squad, when India won the 2011 World Cup.
Rashid Khan continued his great form in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with some scintillating performances for 2022 champions Gujarat Titans. He finished with 19 scalps in 16 matches. It was for the sixth consecutive time, since he started playing in the IPL in 2017, that the Afghanistan leg-spinner picked at least 17 or more wickets in a single season. His economy of 6.60 RPO was brilliant as he put pressure on the rival batters. There was hardly anybody who could play well against Rashid. Now, the spinner has named the one batter whom he finds hard bowl at.
Former England skipper Michael Vaughan has hailed Hardik Pandya as a future India captain after he led first-timers Gujarat Titans to an IPL title win. Hardik led from the front with a three-wicket haul and a crucial 34 as Gujarat defeated former champions Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets to lift the 2022 IPL trophy on Sunday. He was named the 'Player of the Match' for his brilliant performance. Earlier, several other former players including Virender Sehwag and Ravi Shatri lauded Hardik's captaincy in the IPL 2022.

Hardik Pandya's eagerness to learn as captain and his ability to effectively engage with his teammates contributed massively to Gujarat Titans' title-winning run on IPL debut, said team mentor Gary Kirsten on Sunday. Kirsten, who coached India to the 2011 World Cup title, was all praise for Hardik who excelled both as skipper and player in the team's very first season.
Hardik Pandya's eagerness to learn as captain and his ability to effectively engage with his teammates contributed massively to Gujrata Titans' title-winning run on IPL debut, said team mentor Gary Kirsten on Sunday. Kirsten, who coached India to the 2011 World Cup title, was all praise for Hardik who excelled both as skipper and player in the team's very first season. "He has been fantastic, I've looked working with him. He's a high-profile player in India but he's incredibly humble, wanting to learn as a leader and engage with his players which I thing is really, really important. He's tried to help the youngsters, he's come in and played a different responsibility," he told the IPL host broadcaster.
