Bad batting or a treacherous pitch?
The second ODI between India and England was a star-studded affair with the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina in attendance. However, it was a bad day at the office for India as they lost the contest by 100 runs and as a result, the three-match series stands level at 1-1 with the decider to be played in Manchester on Sunday. A day after the game, 'Master Blaster' Sachin Tendulkar shared a photo with West Indies legend Sir Garfield Sobers on Twitter.
England picked up four wickets on the fourth morning but were still staring at the prospect of a record chase in their series decider against India.
Former captain Joe Root gave his successor Ben Stokes the perfect start to his reign at Lord’s, carrying England to victory with a match-winning century to seal the first LV= Insurance Test against New Zealand.
In the ongoing Pondicherry T10 Tournament, 15-year-old Krishna Pandey emulated the likes of Yuvraj Singh, Ravi Shastri and Kieron Pollard as he smashed six sixes in an over. In the match between Patriots and Royals, the latter were chasing 158 and in the sixth over of the match, Pandey teed off. Taking on Nitesh Kumar, Pandey hit five sixes on the trot before the bowler bowled a wide. The extra delivery, however, was also a maximum, albeit off a mishit.
Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Afridi has been in fine form across formats for the past few years. Shaheen Afridi, who won the Sir Garfield Sobers award for the men's cricketer of the year in 2021, has been tormenting batters from across the globe with his swing, and line and length. On being asked about New Zealand pacer Lockie Ferguson and young India fast bowler Umran Malik's mindboggling speeds in the IPL, Shaheen said that raw pace is of no use without line, length and swing.
West Indies all-rounder David Holford, who played 24 Tests between 1966 and 1977, has died aged 82, Cricket West Indies announced on Tuesday. A leg-spinner and lower-order batsman, Holford is perhaps best remembered for his part in an extraordinary, match-saving effort during the Lord's Test of 1966 when he made an unbeaten century alongside his cousin Garfield Sobers in a stand of 274.
