Wing Ollie Hassell-Collins has been axed from England’s World Cup training squad as Northampton Saints and Leicester Tigers players come back into the fold. Northampton and Leicester both lost the Premiership semi-finals in mid-May and the return of their players has led to a shake-up in an expanded 38-man England squad.
Fit-again trio Courtney Lawes, Tom Curry and George Ford have been included in England’s 36-man squad for the Guinness Six Nations clash with Wales in Cardiff on Saturday.
Flyhalf George Ford, vice-captain Courtney Lawes and Tom Curry, returning after injury, were among the 36 players named to the England squad by coach Steve Borthwick ahead of Saturday's Six Nations clash against Wales.
Next weekend’s fixture against the Barbarians has been flagged for a long time as an important exercise in the context of the upcoming Test series in Australia. Coached by Fabien Galthié, captained by Charles Ollivon and promising to be brimming with young French talent, the invitational side will be capable of causing an upset at Twickenham.
The Saints all but sealed the bonus point victory in the first half with four tries, two of which came from hooker Sam Matavesi within 22 minutes of kick-off, before the victorious hosts added a further six five-pointers in the second half.
The squad features familiar names returning to the set-up from injury such as Owen Farrell, Manu Tuilagi and Anthony Watson while Henry Arundell, Fraser Dingwall and Will Joseph will bid to make a name for themselves early in their England careers.
