Unseeded Indian Ramkumar Ramanathan pulled off an upset win against top seed Elias Ymer of Sweden to enter the final qualifying round of the Maha Open ATP Challenger 100 tennis championship in Pune on Sunday. The 30-year-old Ramanathan took revenge of his Davis Cup loss last year against the top seeded Swede, winning 5-7,6-1,6-4 in the match that lasted one hour and 52 minutes. The 28-year-old Ymer played solid tennis to wrap up the first set. But Ramanathan fought back with his attacking serve and volley game to win the second set.
Defending champions Ramkumar Ramanathan and Saketh Myneni entered the doubles final of the Chennai Open ATP Challenger with a hard-fought win over top seeds Ray Ho and Matthew Christopher Romios in Chennai on Friday. The third seeded Indian pair registered a 7-6 (5), 7-6 (8) victory over their rivals from Taipei and Australia. They will face unseeded Japanese duo of Shintaro Mochizuki and Kaito Uesugi, a 4-6, 6-4, 10-6 winners over second seeded Indians Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and Vijay Sundar Prashanth, for the title. Earlier, Ramkumar and Saketh saved a set point in the second set tie-break before emerging winners on their third match point.
Ramkumar Ramanathan and N Sriram Balaji could play well only in patches in the do-or-die doubles encounter and later Siddharth Vishwakarma lost on debut as India went down 0-4 to Sweden in the Davis Cup World Group I tie in Stockholm on Sunday. After losing both the singles on Saturday, India needed to win the third rubber to stay alive in the tie but Ramkumar and Balaji went down 3-6 4-6 against Andre Goransson and Filip Bergevi in one hour and 19 minutes to concede an unassailable 0-3 lead.
India's top singles player Sumit Nagal finally got the better of Elias Ymer to make a winning start at the Nordea Open on Tuesday. Going into the ATP 250 event, Nagal was down 0-2 in head-to-head record against the Swede wild card. Nagal extended his good run with a 6-4 6-3 win over the talented Ymer, who has played a lot of events in India with considerable success. Nagal had lost to Ymer in Split Open (Croatia) last year and at Lyon (France) in 2019. Nagal, who is now placed 68th in the ATP singles chart, next faces world number 36 Mariano Navone from Argentina.

Andy Murray has been given an extra day in his efforts to recover from back surgery in time to play singles at Wimbledon.
India were on Thursday drawn to meet Sweden in an away Davis Cup World Group I tie in September. The Indian Davis Cup team had blanked Pakistan 4-0 in the World Group I play-offs in Islamabad last week while Sweden lost 1-3 to Brazil at home in the Qualifiers first round. India have never defeated Sweden in five meetings so far but will have a great opportunity to get their first win as the hosts do not boast of intimidating singles players. The last time India competed against Sweden was in 2005 when India hosted them in Delhi and lost 1-3. Sweden have a very talented Elias Ymer, who is ranked 160, in their ranks. India have higher-ranked Sumit Nagal (121) and if he is available, it will be an interesting tie.
