MUMBAI : Batter Suryakumar Yadav and fast bowler Deepak Chahar have been ruled out of India's three-match Twenty20 International series against Sri Lanka at home, the country's cricket board (BCCI) said on Wednesday.
India completed a 3-0 T20 series whitewash against the Indies, to go with a similar scoreline in the ODIs, giving Rohit Sharma the best possible start as full-time captain.
Venkatesh Iyer's all-round show in the just-concluded T20I series against West Indies, former India opener Wasim Jaffer said that the Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) all-rounder is ahead of Hardik Pandya for the T20 World Cup consideration at this moment. Iyer played a crucial unbeaten knock of 35 off 19 balls in the third and final T20I against West Indies at the Eden Gardens. The 27-year-old finished the series as the fourth-highest run-getter with 92 runs from three matches and took two wickets as well.
India put in dominant displays to blank the visiting West Indies team in the three-match T20I series. The 3-0 clean sweep in the T20I series helped India go top of the ICC T20I team rankings. But it wasn't all smooth sailing for Rohit Sharma's team. There were periods in all three games that the visitors dominated but each time, India overcame the difficult situations to come out on top in the match. Following India's 17-run win over the West Indies in the third and final T20I at the Eden Gardens, batting legend Sunil Gavaskar spoke about the "most impressive" aspect of India's wins, especially in the final two games.
After winning the third and final T20I against West Indies, Team India became the number one ranked side in the shortest format of the game. The triumph helped India overtake England at the top of the T20I team rankings, with Rohit Sharma's side now matching the top rating of 269. While England and India both have the same rating (269), India have a total of 10,484 points, 10 more than England's 10,474. Pakistan (rating of 266), New Zealand (255) and South Africa (253) round out the top five countries, while Australia (249) remain in sixth after their 4-1 series victory over Sri Lanka.
Sachin Tendulkar lauded Team India for whitewashing West Indies in the three-match T20I series on Sunday. With the 17-run win in the third T20I, India won the three-match T20I series 3-0. Earlier, the Men in Blue had defeated West Indies 3-0 in the ODI series as well. India will next lock horns against Sri Lanka in a three-match T20I series, beginning Thursday. Taking to his Twitter, Sachin wrote, "Congratulations to #TeamIndia for another whitewash. Well played!"
Suryakumar Yadav expressed happiness after his brilliant knock help his side to defeat West Indies on Sunday. Suryakumar's 65-run knock was backed up by a spirited bowling performance as India defeated West Indies by runs in the third and final T20I here at the Eden Gardens on Sunday. Harshal Patel returned with three wickets while Venkatesh Iyer also got two wickets.
