IPL 2022: Key is to bowl in right areas in powerplay, says Shami

Gujarat Titans speedster Mohammed Shami, the highest wicket-taker in power-play overs this IPL season, on Monday said the secret for his success was to bowl in the right areas. Shami has taken 11 wickets at 20 runs apiece to set it up for the Titans in the power-play overs. "In T20 cricket, we focus on variations -- slower ones, bouncers. But according to me it's about bowling in the right areas then it becomes a difficult score. That's always my gameplan," Shami said during a virtual media interaction on the eve of the first IPL Qualifier against Rajasthan Royals.

Eden Gardens - Gujarat Titans - Motera, not Eden, is my home, says Bengal's Wriddhiman Saha - timesofindia.indiatimes.com - Ahmedabad

Motera, not Eden, is my home, says Bengal's Wriddhiman Saha

Wriddhiman Saha on Monday called the Motera Stadium his new "home ground", having played all his life at the iconic Eden Gardens. It would not have been easy for the Gujarat Titans glovesman to return to the venue, where he made a dream Ranji debut with a hundred in 2007, but won't play for the state after a run-in with the establishment. Saha is seeking an exit from Bengal domestic cricket after a CAB official questioned his commitment for the state Ranji team. "Here, I'm representing Gujarat so my home ground is Motera Stadium, I believe in that. Since I'm no longer with KKR, the Eden is not my home," Saha said in a virtual media interaction ahead of their IPL Qualifier One clash against Rajasthan Royals. While he called Motera his home ground, ironically, not a single match of the ongoing IPL has been played in Ahmedabad till now. Asked whether he would be seen playing for Bengal at the Eden again, the 37-year-old said: "I'm not able to answer the second part of your question." "I might have played a lot of games here in the past but I'm here to play an away game," Saha said. The veteran stumper Saha was at loggerheads with the establishment of Cricket Association of Bengal after they named him for the Ranji Trophy quarter final against Jharkhand without his consent. Saha was annoyed that CAB assistant secretary Debabrata Das questioned his commitment after he pulled out of the Ranji league stage. Saha is peeved that his state association has not supported him during his 'tough times'. He has verbally sought a no-objection certificate (NOC) from CAB to quit Bengal.

Want To Qualify For IPL 2022 Playoffs To Play In Front Of Kolkata Knight Riders Fans At Eden Gardens: Shreyas Iyer

Kolkata Knight Riders are enduring a torrid time in the Indian Premier League (IPL) but skipper Shreyas Iyer on Tuesday expressed optimism for a turnaround, saying the former champions would be "unstoppable as a team" once they get into their groove. KKR have lost five out of eight games, including four on the trot, and are currently placed eighth in the 10-team table. "We got off to a really good start with three wins out of four games but after that things didn't go pretty well for us but I still believe in the team," Iyer told the official website of the team.

Rohit Sharma's assurance to super-subs paying off

Rohit Sharma was asked about a batter of Shreyas Iyer's calibre warming the bench at the Eden Gardens, he admitted it was very hard on the fellow Mumbaikar not making it to the playing XI. The new all-format skipper, however, made sure that the 27-year-old got a look-in as soon as BCCI decided to give Team India regulars Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant a break from the tough bio-bubble and rest them for the T20 leg of the series against Sri Lanka. Also, the absence of KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav and Deepak Chahar provided Rohit the perfect opportunity to try out the fringe players.
