Seventeen minutes into their All-Ireland quarter-final with Dublin, things were not going fully to plan for Clare.
A Tony Kelly hat-trick laid down a marker of Clare's progress and gave them a semi-final shot at redemption against Kilkenny in a fortnight's time.
Before a ball was pucked in the Leinster SHC, Kilkenny and Galway were odds-on to be the teams to reach the final, and so it came to pass following Sunday's matches.
Galway are through to the Leinster SHC final, just about as everyone expected, but the manner of their progression was far from anticipated with Henry Shefflin's men remarkably coming from 12 points down to rescue a Croke Park draw.
It wasn't the most convincing performance or victory for defending champions, Kilkenny, but this success at UPMC Nowlan Park has left them within touching distance of a place in the Leinster senior hurling championship final.
