The Times of India Sports Awards (TOISA) 2021: Meet the jury

Ahead of the awards ceremony for TOISA 2021, the jury meet was held in the capital on September 22. As always the TOISA jury had distinguished sports personalities. This time the jury included the likes of cricket all-rounder and member of the 1983 World Cup winning team Madan Lal, Olympic medal winning shooter Gagan Narang, former hockey captain and Haryana sports Minister Sandeep Singh, veteran Indian athlete Anju Bobby George who was the first Indian athlete to win an athletics World Championships medal, Paralympic Games silver medallist Deepa Malik and Olympic medal winning boxer Vijender Singh. Meet the TOISA 2021 jury members:Madan LalMadan Lal is one of the best bowling all-rounders Indian cricket has ever produced. The man who dismissed Vivian Richards in the 1983 World Cup final had incredible figures of 3/31 in that match, which saw India win their first ever cricket World Cup title. He took the wickets of Desmond Haynes, Viv Richards and Larry Gomes, breaking the back of the West Indian batting. In an international career spanning 13 years, Lal played 39 Tests and 67 ODIs for India. His best bowling figures in Test cricket were 5/23 and in ODIs - 4/20. He also scored over 1000 runs in Test cricket, with 5 half-centuries. Fondly called 'Maddi paa', he was one of India's big heroes of the 1983 World Cup triumph, finishing as the joint second highest wicket taker of the tournament with 17 wickets. He has also been a cricket coach and a selector.

Cricket West Indies (CWI) on Wednesday announced the squad for the upcoming International Cricket Council's (ICC) Men's T20 World Cup, which will take place from October-November this year. The panel confirmed fifteen (15) players who will represent the West Indies for the eighth ICC T20 World Cup, which will be played in Australia from October 16 to November 13. Can't Beg People To Play For West Indies, Says Dejected Head Coach Phil Simmons

"I don't think that I should be begging people to play for the West Indies," said the team's dejected chief coach Phil Simmons. The former opener expressed his disappointment even as the board struggles to zero in on their best squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup, with most cricketers either playing franchise league elsewhere or out injured. "It hurts. There's no other way to put it. But what can you do? I don't think that I should be begging people to play for their countries. I think if you want to represent West Indies, you will make yourself available," Simmons was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
