LONDON: Kai Havertz and Mason Mount’s early strikes helped Chelsea ease to a 2-0 win over Bournemouth on Tuesday to snap a dismal run of five Premier League games without a win. Graham Potter’s side endured a torrid spell before the World Cup but sparkled on their return to Stamford Bridge against the struggling Cherries to move eighth, six points shy of the top four with a game in hand to come. However, victory came at a cost as defender Reece James limped off on his return from the knee injury which kept him out of England’s World Cup campaign.
Switzerland coach Murat Yakin will lean on experience at the World Cup in Qatar, naming on Wednesday several veterans, including Granit Xhaka and Xherdan Shaqiri, in a 26-man squad for this month's tournament.
England are likely to be without Ben Chilwell at the World Cup after the left-back pulled up with a hamstring injury in Chelsea's 2-1 win over Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday.
England defender Ben Chilwell's World Cup hopes could be in danger after he suffered a hamstring injury in the closing stages of Chelsea's 2-1 win over Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League. Blues boss Graham Potter admitted to concern over the left-back after he pulled up just minutes before the final whistle at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea had come from behind thanks to goals from Raheem Sterling and debutant Denis Zakaria after Bruno Petkovic had put the Croatian side ahead, but Chilwell's injury marred the evening.
Denis Zakaria scored the winner on his Chelsea debut as Graham Potter's side finished top of Champions League Group E with a 2-1 victory over Dinamo Zagreb at Stamford Bridge.
