Cricket World Cup 2023 - England Central Contract Snub Was 'Final Nail In Coffin': David Willey

An angry David Willey on Friday said that not being given central contract by the England board was the "final nail in coffin", making his decision to retire at 33 a lot more easier. Willey announced his international retirement amid defending champions England's disastrous outing in the ongoing World Cup. His decision follows the England and Wales Cricket Board's (ECB) decision not to offer him a central contract for the 2023-24 cycle. "That (central contract snub), for me, was, probably, the final nail in the coffin really, and it made my decision a lot easier. "But these conversations around contracts all happened before we came out, so when we joined up at Lord's I knew I was the only one that didn't have one. It was difficult," Willey told Sky Cricket. "I was upset, angry and disappointed. But I respect their vision, and don't have to agree with them." Willey on Wednesday announced that he will retire from international cricket after the end of the World Cup but insisted that his team's underwhelming performance in the showpiece has not influenced his decision.

England All-Rounder David Willey To Retire From International Cricket After ODI World Cup 2023

England all-rounder David Willey on Wednesday announced that he will retire from international cricket after the end of the ongoing World Cup and insisted that his team's underwhelming performance in the showpiece has not influenced his decision. Willey's decision has come a week after England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) excluded him from the list of cricketers who were offered central contracts for the 2023-24 season. "I never wanted this day to come. From a young boy, I've only ever dreamed of playing cricket for England," Willey wrote in an Instagram post.

Bharat Army Comes Up With Stunning Replies After Barmy Army Trolls Virat Kohli

The battle between fans is quite common during the Cricket World Cup 2023 and it was in full display during the high-profile match between India and England in Lucknow on Sunday. It was a rare off day for Virat Kohli as he was dismissed for a duck and England's official fan army - Barmy Army - took to social media to taunt the veteran batter. While India were able to post a modest total, the bowlers were in full form and the duo of Joe Root and Ben Stokes also lost their wickets without scoring a single run. India's fan army - Bharat Army - wasted no time in coming up with hilarious replies to the earlier taunts.

Cricket World Cup 2023 Points Table: What Huge Win Over England Means For India's Semifinals Dream

The Indian cricket team reclaimed the top spot in the Cricket World Cup 2023 points table with a comprehensive 100-run win over defending champions England in Lucknow on Sunday. It was a brilliant show from the Indian pace duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami after setting a somewhat modest total thanks to gritty knocks from Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav. After the huge victory, India remain the only unbeaten side in the competition with 12 points from 6 matches. On the other hand, England continued their disappointing run as they are bottom of the table with only two points.
