VANCOUVER — Xherdan Shaqiri had a goal and an assist Saturday, lifting the surging Chicago Fire to a 3-1 victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps at B.C. Place Stadium.
The 26-year-old was linked on Monday with a move north amid reported interest from the Capital and although he fits the bill for what Hibs are looking for and was on their radar, the Evening News understands that club chiefs have since turned their attentions to other options.
The 25-year-old attacker arrived in January after signing a pre-contract last summer but struggled to get to grips with the hurly-burly of the Scottish game.
The 39-year-old was sacked after just 120 days in charge following consecutive defeats in the league and Scottish Cup by rivals Hearts that ended Hibs’ hopes of a top-six finish and European football next season.
Chris Mueller’s return to the MLS will free up a “significant amount” of money for the new Hibs manager to use as he works to turnaround fortunes following a disappointing season.
Hibs are currently on the look out for their third manager within one season, but there may be reshuffle in players too.
The 25-year-old signed a pre-contract with the Easter Road side last summer during the final months of his spell with Orlando City. He joined up with Hibs in January 2022 and scored once in 15 appearances, in the 3-1 Scottish Cup fifth-round victory over Arbroath.
