Iga Swiatek Storms Into French Open Final, Novak Djokovic Undergoes Knee Surgery

Iga Swiatek closed in on a third successive French Open title Thursday as she defeated Coco Gauff 6-2, 6-4 in the semi-finals, while Novak Djokovic said surgery on his injured knee "went well". World number one Swiatek extended her winning run in Paris to 20 matches and advanced to a fourth Roland Garros final in five years, with 17-year-old Mirra Andreeva or Italy's Jasmine Paolini standing between her and another title. Swiatek, who had won 10 of her previous 11 meetings with Gauff in straight sets, wasted no time in grabbing the initiative as she broke the US Open champion in the opening game of the match.

Iga Swiatek Eyes Place Among Greats With Fourth French Open Crown

Iga Swiatek said she is "confident" ahead of her bid to become only the fourth woman to win four Roland Garros singles titles in the Open era. The world number one could also become the first player to lift three successive women's titles in Paris since Justine Henin in 2007 when the French Open gets underway on Sunday. Swiatek is a strong favourite after dominating on clay again this season, arriving in Paris off the back of WTA 1000 victories in Madrid and Rome.

The big question ahead of the French Open is not whether Iga Swiatek will win the women's singles again but exactly how many times the Pole will lift the Coupe Suzanne Lenglen before she calls time on her career.

Iga Swiatek will be looking to join a select band of players who have lifted the Suzanne Lenglen Cup four times when she begins the defence of her French Open title next week.

Women's Tennis Signs 'Multi-Year Partnership' With Saudi Investment Fund

The women's tennis tour (WTA) on Monday announced "a multi-year partnership" with the Saudi Arabian sovereign wealth fund (PIF), emulating a deal made by the men's tour (ATP) in February. The WTA said in a statement that it shared with PIF an "ambition to grow women's professional tennis and inspire more women and girls around the world to take up the game." The partnership between the WTA and PIF follows the recent announcement that the season-ending WTA Finals, featuring the eight top singles players and doubles pairings, will be held in Riyadh for the next three years, starting this year.
