Jessica Pegula celebrated the intense competition offered by women’s tennis' ‘Big Three' of Iga Swiatek, Elena Rybakina and Aryna Sabalenka as she spoke to Eurosport ahead of the French Open. Those three have emerged as the best players on the circuit in recent months, but American Pegula has been ranked No. 3 in the world for the last half year, and she enters the French Open with high hopes.
It was in May of last year that tennis legend Chris Evert completed her sixth and final chemotherapy session to treat stage one ovarian cancer after the 18-time Grand Slam champion was diagnosed with the disease in January 2022. Evert’s younger sister, former professional tennis player Jeanne Evert Dubin, died from ovarian cancer in 2020 at the age of 62. Evert has said that her doctor told her there was a better than 90% chance the cancer would never return because it was caught so early in her case.

Swiatek had beaten Sabalenka 6-3, 6-4 to win the Stuttgart Open at the end of April, gearing up for her French Open title defence later in May.
