The Briton, whose once-dominant Mercedes team have been wrong-footed by the sport's radical new rules, could manage no better than the 16th quickest time, missing out on progressing into the second part of the session by 0.087 seconds.
Lewis Hamilton’s struggles continued as he failed to make the cut in Q1 in qualifying in Saudi Arabia. His team and the former world champion will be concerned as not only was he well down on the leaders — Carlos Sainz topped the initial run ahead of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen in second and third went to Charles Leclerc ahead of the second run — but George Russell was in touching distance, in fourth place.

Charles Leclerc set the pace for Ferrari in Saudi Arabian GP final practice as Formula 1 drivers returned to the track following a dramatic Friday.
Charles Leclerc recorded the fastest time in the third practice session at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix on Saturday. With the end of the session closing in he put in a time of 1:29.735, just 0.033s ahead of current champion, Red Bull driver Max Verstappen. Ad/> Third fastest was Sergio Perez’s, Red Bull’s second driver, and Ferrari closed out the top four with Carlos Sainz.
