IMOLA, Italy : Formula One world champion Max Verstappen put Red Bull on pole position in a wet and crash-interrupted Emilia Romagna Grand Prix qualifying on Friday to secure top slot for the first sprint of the season.
Buenas sensaciones, tiempos que salen solos, en casa de los tifosi, recién renovado y con esa lluvia fina que tan bien le sienta. Pero la clasificatoria de Ímola, esta vez en viernes y ante un fin de semana que casi vale doble (hay 34 puntos en juego entre el esprint y la carrera), cambió de bruces de rojo Ferrari a rojo oscuro casi negro para Carlos Sainz cuando perdió el control del F1-75 en la Q2, en Rivazza. Se le fue el tren trasero al madrileño cuando iba segundo y cómodo en la tabla de tiempos, de hecho mejoraba ligeramente sus registros, y chocó contra las protecciones a velocidad suficiente para dañar la suspensión delantera y regresar al garaje en ‘scooter’.
El error en la Q2 lastra el fin de semana de Carlos Sainz, que saldrá décimo al esprint y tiene que remontar en busca de los puntos del sábado (ocho para el ganador y uno menos a partir del segundo, hasta el octavo que suma uno) que a la vez configuran la parrilla del domingo. El madrileño habló para la televisión tras regresar al paddock: «Una pena, la verdad, porque rápido iba en toda la sesión y antes en los libres en agua. Un error un poco raro, sinceramente, no lo acabo de entender porque no iba al límite del coche ni tiraba a tope. Sabía que la lluvia iba a llegar y había que hacer una vuelta buena, pero también sabía que tenía margen y no necesitaba las últimas décimas. Una pena, no me queda otra que pedir disculpas, intentar recuperar, por lo menos queda todo el esprint para recuperar».
Lewis Hamilton will start Saturday’s Sprint race at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix from a lowly 13th as Max Verstappen took pole position in a chaotic qualifying session that was red flagged on five occasions.
Max Verstappen eventually came out on top after a red flag-filled, wet/dry qualifying on Friday evening at Imola ahead of the first Sprint of the season on Saturday.
Max Verstappen topped the timing sheets in Qualifying for the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, and will be on pole for Saturday’s Sprint race in Imola. The Sprint will make its first appearance of 2022, in what is the fourth race of the season, and Red Bull driver Verstappen will have the best chance to get the maximum eight points on offer and pole for Sunday’s feature event.
