HONG KONG : Former British Open champion Cameron Smith will go into Sunday's final round of the Hong Kong Open on 16-under par and in a share for the lead with Thailand's Phachara Khongwatmai after hitting a five-under round of 65 at Fanling on Saturday.
HONG KONG: Asian Tour regular Phachara Khongwatmai upstaged early starters Cameron Smith and Bae Sang-moon with a sizzling 10-birdie 63 to take a one-stroke lead at the halfway stage of the Hong Kong Open on Friday (Nov 10).
RIYADH: The organizing committee of the Saudi Games 2023 has announced that tickets to the nation’s largest sporting event are now available.
Cameron Smith was pipped to an $18 million cheque by Talor Gooch in Saudi Arabia last month but hopes to turn the tables on the American for a much smaller prize at the $2 million Hong Kong Open this week.
Organisers for the Masters and Open Championship on Thursday dismissed the notion that they would create automatic major exemptions for LIV golfers next year. "While we do not at this time anticipate making any changes in 2024, we do always look at them and we will continue to do that," said Augusta National Golf Club chairman Fred Ridley. "Our qualification criteria are very much dynamic, and we adjust to what we feel is in the bestinterests of the tournament representing the best players in the world, so we always look at that." When a reporter suggested it would be a "shame" if LIV Golf's individual season-long points winner Talor Gooch wasn't able to compete in the Masters, Ridley responded: "They made decisions based on what they thought was in the best interests of their golf careers, and we certainly respect that." Last April, 18 LIV Golf members competed in the Masters -- with Brooks Koepka and Phil Mickelson finishing in a tie for second place, four strokes behind the winner Jon Rahm. Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau and Cameron Smith are the lone LIV players currently eligible for the 2024 Masters field. R&A chief executive officer Martin Slumbers said Thursday that it was premature to discuss the qualification criteria for The Open in 2024. "There has been some speculation in the media recently, and I would say that it is completely off the mark," Slumbers said.
Organisers of the Masters and Open Championship say they have no plans to create exemptions for LIV players in 2024.
MIAMI: HyFlyers GC and Cleeks GC pulled off the upsets as lower-seeded teams during Friday’s quarterfinal matches of the LIV Golf Team Championship in Miami and will face the top two seeds in Saturday’s semi-finals at Trump National Doral.
