Borna Coric capped a fairytale week as he stunned Stefanos Tsitsipas to lift the Cincinnati title and become the lowest ranked Masters 1000 champion in history. The Croatian, who arrived in Ohio sitting at 152 on the ATP ladder and on a protected ranking, followed up his stunning triumphs over Rafael Nadal, Roberto Bautista Agut, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Britain’s Cameron Norrie by defeating the No.4 seed 7-6(0) 6-2 in one hour and 55 minutes. Ad It is Coric’s third ATP title and his maiden one at this level having lost his only previous Masters final to Novak Djokovic in Shanghai back in 2018.
Cameron Norrie will hit a new career-high ranking of nine despite losing to Borna Coric in the semi-finals of the Western and Southern Open.
Stefanos Tsitsipas defeated Daniil Medvedev in Saturday's semi-final match of the men's singles event at the ongoing Cincinnati Masters. Tsitsipas won the first set 7-6 (8/6) before losing the second one 3-6. However, the Greek tennis star made a good comeback to win the deciding set 6-3 and also the match. As soon as he finished the contest, Tsitsipas stood still in front of the crowd and then presented his dances moves to double their joy after the nail-biting semi-final match.
Borna Coric will take on Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final of the Cincinnati Masters after he downed Cameron Norrie pretty comfortably in straight sets. The 25-year-old Croatian, who was only able to muster 21 matches in an injury-plagued 2021, showed that he is very much back at the top of his game with the impressive win over Norrie.
