"Selected Friends In Team": Babar Azam Accused Of 'Disregarding Merit' During Selection

Just when fans assumed that Pakistan cricket couldn't fall any lower, the embarrassing results in the ICC Champions Trophy put Mohammad Rizwan's side into the darker dungeons of the cricketing world. The current crisis in the Pakistan team isn't something that was recently built. Experts and former cricketers feel the signs were there in the making for a few years. A major part of the blame for Pakistan's current situation goes to former skipper Babar Azam, who allegedly, selected his 'friends' in the team and overlooked others who arguably had more merit.

ICC ODI Rankings: Virat Kohli Makes Significant Gain With Dubai Century, Rises To...

India's stalwart batter Virat Kohli on Wednesday rose in the latest ICC Men's Player Rankings after he scored his 51st ODI century in a superb display of batting against Pakistan at the ICC Champions Trophy in Dubai. Kohli gained one place on the latest rankings for ODI batters to move back into fifth spot overall, as per the ICC who released the new ODI rankings today. This brings three Indian batters inside the top five. Opener Shubman Gill (first) and skipper Rohit Sharma (third) maintained their places at the top of the batting rankings courtesy of their own decent hauls at the ongoing Champions Trophy event.

Champions Trophy: Sunil Gavaskar Comes To Babar Azam's Rescue Amid Fiery Criticism

It's tough being Babar Azam at the moment. The batter arguably remains the biggest brand in Pakistan cricket, especially from the batting point of view. But, for a long period of time, results haven't done justice to the talent Babar has. With Babar's underperformance playing a big role in Pakistan's below-par show in the ICC Champions Trophy, the batter has found himself in constant line of fire. Amid such heavy criticism, Babar has received an important piece of advice from Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar.

Down And Out, Beleaguered Pakistan To Play For Pride Against Bangladesh

Their dreams of defending the Champions Trophy title at home shattered, an under-fire Pakistan team will seek to play for pride when it faces an equally insipid Bangladesh in a dead rubber in Rawalpindi  on Thursday. With the tournament offering very little margin for error, Pakistan crumbled to suffer heavy defeats to New Zealand and arch-rivals India, which left them on the brink of elimination before the Kiwis confirmed it with their win over Bangladesh. Disgruntled fans are now calling for sweeping changes in the country's cricket structure starting from the very top of the pyramid, days after the first global tournament in Pakistan in 29 years got underway.

"When He Scores, It's Against Zimbabwe...": Babar Azam Slammed For Poor Batting Intent

Former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria came hard at premier Pakistani batters Babar Azam and Mohammed Rizwan for their poor performances in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy, slamming the former for his lack of "intent" against big oppositions and piling up runs majorly against smaller nations. It was a Champions Trophy to forget for Babar and Rizwan, who had forgettable outings against Bangladesh and arch-rivals India, scoring 87 runs (with a half-century) and 49 runs respectively in two matches so far. While Babar's sluggish knock of 64 in 90 balls against New Zealand while chasing 321 generated massive criticism, Rizwan repeated the same conservative approach with a sluggish 46 in 77 balls against India, which though helped Pakistan stitch a century stand, it could only take them to a final score of 241 runs. The result of such sluggishness is: Pakistan knocked out of their home tournament within a matter of five days.
