After Champions Trophy Flop Show, Babar Azam Skips Major Tournament In Pakistan

Dropped from the Pakistan T20 squad for the series in New Zealand, former Pakistan captain Babar Azam has decided to skip the National T20 Championship. Babar, Muhammad Rizwan and fast bowler Naseem Shah were all dropped for the five-match T20 series starting March 16 in Christchurch, but have been retained for the three ODIs against New Zealand. While announcing the team, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had indicated that Babar, Rizwan, Naseem, who are all centrally contracted players, would be taking part in the National T20 in Faisalabad starting this week.

Though Siddique shared his son's exclusion in a positive manner, he did fire a warning to the country's legendary cricketers who have been criticising the star cricketer for his below-par performances.

Pakistan cricket team batter Babar Azam was dropped for the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand following a disastrous Champions Trophy 2025 campaign. The batter was unable to score big as his side crashed out of the group stage without winning a single match. As a result, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) went for a complete overhaul and dropped both Babar and Mohammad Rizwan. Babar's performances were also slammed by both fans as well as critics with Shoaib Akhtar even calling him a 'fraud'. Amidst the criticism, Babar's father - Azam Siddique - has slammed both PCB and the critics for their constant comments and also backed Babar to bounce back and perform well in the T20 format.

Captain Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam were on Tuesday dropped from the Pakistan squad for the five-match T20 series in New Zealand. Salman Ali Agha replaced Rizwan as captain of the T20 outfit with all-rounder Shadab Khan being recalled and named his vice-captain. Rizwan has been retained as captain of the ODI squad after the team's disappointing show in the Champions Trophy. The selectors have avoided an overhaul in the one-day squad and retained majority of the players who flopped in the ongoing ICC event. Babar is also retained in the ODI squad but batters Saud Shakil and Kamran Ghulam have been axed. The selectors have also sidelined fast bowlers Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf from the one-day squad. Pakistan play five T20s and three ODIs in New Zealand starting March 16.

Akmal blamed the lack of balance in the Pakistan squad as the reason behind the hosts early exit from the tournament.
