Pakistan captain Babar Azam has backed Hasan Ali to stage a comeback soon, after the all-rounder was dropped from the team for the ODI tour of the Netherlands and the Asia Cup T20 tournament in the UAE later this month.
Babar Azam has been hailed in recent times as one of the best batters of the modern era. The Pakistan cricket team captain is currently the NO. 1 ODI and T20I batter in ICC rankings. In Tests, Azam is No. 3 in ICC charts. He is the only batter to be in top three in all the three formats. Recently, Sri Lanka great Mahela Jayawardene, on the latest episode of The ICC Review, backed the Pakistan star to dethrone Joe Root from the top spot in Tests. "I would say Babar Azam has an opportunity. He's been consistent in all three formats and it shows in his rankings. He's a naturally gifted player, plays in all conditions, he's got the game to adapt as well," Jayawardene said.

Pakistan on Wednesday dropped under-performing fast bowler Hasan Ali for the tour of the Netherlands and the Asia Cup later this month. The 28-year-old was player of the tournament in Pakistan's Champions Trophy win in 2017. But Hasan took just three wickets in two Tests in Sri Lanka last month, claimed only three wickets for 222 runs in his last three one-day internationals and went wicket-less in two of his last three Twenty20 internationals. Chief selector Mohammad Waseem said Hasan needed a break. "Hasan has been given a break from international cricket and he has been replaced by Naseem Shah," Waseem said in a Pakistan Cricket Board statement.
LAHORE, Pakistan : Pakistan have dropped seamer Hasan Ali and replaced him with teenage fast bowler Naseem Shah in their Twenty20 squad for the Asia Cup, which begins in Dubai on Aug. 27.
