Pakistan bat against Afghanistan in Cricket World Cup
The Pakistan cricket team isn't in the best of mental state, having lost their last two matches in a derailing Cricket World Cup 2023 campaign. As reports of there being altercations within the team emerged, the Pakistan Cricket Board took to social media to quash rumours of discord and infighting in the national team, competing in the World Cup in India. In a press release, the PCB strongly denied recent speculations about any internal discord in the Babar Azam-led side. The PCB has been forced to act after increasing rumours about disunity in the team.
Pakistan vs Afghanistan, ODI World Cup 2023, Live Updates:Pakistan will be taking on Afghanistan in their ODI World Cup 2023 match on Monday in Chepauk. A win is mandatory for Babar Azam's side after two successive defeats against India and Australia, as another slip up will severely hamper their ambitions to reach the semifinals of the tournament.
India's legendary spinner Harbhajan Singh has heaped praises on country's star batter Virat Kohli. Harbhajan termed Kohli a modern day legend and also said that the likes of Babar Azam and others should learn from the batter. The legend of Kohli continued to grow exponentially as he reached within handshaking distance of Sachin Tendulkar's world record of 49 hundreds during India's walk-in-the-park seven-wicket victory over Bangladesh in a World Cup game in Pune on Thursday. Kohli, who plans 50-over chases with a precision of a surgeon, remained unbeaten on 103 off 97 balls as India knocked off the 258-run target with as many as 51 balls remaining.
Pakistan will be up against Afghanistan in Match 22 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on October 23 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, India. The match is scheduled to begin at 02:00 PM IST. Pakistan made a winning start to their campaign with back-to-back victories over the Netherlands and Sri Lanka. However, they have stumbled in the last two matches with defeats against arch-rivals India and Australia. A win over Afghanistan will put the Babar Azam-led team's campaign back on track.
A desperate Pakistan will be wary of a competent group of Afghanistan spinners' ability to strike hard on an often-gripping Chepauk pitch during the World Cup match in Chennai on Monday. A win is mandatory for Babar Azam's side after two successive defeats against India and Australia, as another slip up will severely hamper their ambitions to reach the semifinals of the tournament. Currently, they are in the fifth position with four points from as many matches but their net run rate of -0.456 is a worry, and it needs improvement. Pakistan's big headache will be their batsmen's travails, especially against spinners.
Australia thrashed Pakistan by 62 runs in their ODI World Cup 2023 match on Friday. The fiery 259-run partnership between David Warner (163) and Mitchell Marsh (121) helped Australia post a massive total of 367/9. Later, Pakistan openers Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq provided them with a good start but Adam Zampa's four-wicket haul gave Australia an upper hand and Pakistan got bundled out for 305. Apart from being a high-scoring encounter, this match also grabbed a lot of limelight for the stunning catch by Pat Cummins to dismiss Babar Azam.
At the moment, Pakistan's World Cup campaign is stuck against a huge boulder primarily because of their bowlers' inability to fire as a unit, the latest setback being a 62-run defeat against Australia in Bengaluru. It was their second successive defeat in the tournament after a seven-wicket battering by India. Shaheen Shah Afridi looked to have regained his touch with a five-wicket haul, but Haris Rauf and Hasan Ali were taken apart by David Warner and Mitchell Marsh. Alarmingly, the Pakistan bowlers did not look to have a Plan B when riding on a rough sea, and their bowling coach Morne Morkel admitted to his side not building a bowling partnership.
