Shreyas Iyer and Ravichandran Ashwin held firm as India beat Bangladesh in a thrilling second Test on Sunday, dashing hopes in Dhaka of a first-ever win over their giant neighbours.
India broke through tough resistance from Bangladesh including a century by Zakir Hasan on his debut to be within four wickets of victory on day four of the first Test on Saturday.
Ravindra Jadeja shared pictures of him with his "crush" on social media on Saturday, but it's not quite what one would have expected. The India all-rounder took to Instagram to post pictures of him with his horse. "My crush," wrote Jadeja while sharing the photos. Wicketkeeper KS Bharat was among the many to react to Jadeja's post, commenting with a heart emoji. The all-rounder's love for horses is well documented, as he frequently shares pictures and videos of his horses.
Injuries and sport go hand in hand. The trouble though is that though Jadeja's absence can be masked (especially if someone like Axar Patel, who is a like-for-like replacement for Jadeja performs well), there is no one who can be a like-for-like replacement for Bumrah. This was a sentiment that was echoed by former Australian cricketer Shane Watson as well. "If you ask me a possible like-for-like replacement for Bumrah, there is none. There's no one really in the world. He is just that incredibly skillful. Whether it's with a brand-new ball, whether it's in the death overs, he's got amazing skill. And that's the reason he's done such an incredible job for India as well. So, there's no like for like replacement (possible)," Watson told TimesofIndia.com in an interview.
The Indian trio of Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur and Axar Patel was on Wednesday nominated ICC 'Player of the Month' award in the women and men's categories for September. Skipper Kaur and vice-captain Mandhana have been shortlisted for the very first time and if one of them goes on to win will then become the first ever India player to win the Women's Player of the Month award, thanks to stellar performances in both ODI and T20I series in England.
India's star batter Suryakumar Yadav shot up two places in the ICC men's T20I rankings for batters and is now second on the charts, only behind Pakistan's Mohammad Rizwan. Suryakumar's recent blitz of 69 off 35 deliveries in the third T20I against Australia meant he moved above Pakistan captain Babar Azam and South Africa's Aiden Markram in the rankings. Earlier, Suryakumar had pipped Babar to go third in the rankings after his 25-ball 46 in the first T20I against Australia, but Babar went above him again after hitting a stunning century in the second T20I against England.
Ravindra Jadeja's absence from the T20 series was expected to weaken India but the hosts found an able replacement in "outstanding" Axar Patel, said Australia coach Andrew McDonald. Left-arm spinner Axar, who was shoed in as a like-for-like replacement for the injured Jadeja, impressed everyone with his bowling, ending as the leading wicket-taker in the three-match series. "Axar, in particular, had an outstanding series. With Jaddu out everyone thought that it might become a bit of a weakness for India, but they've found another one again, which tends to happen," McDonald said at the post-match press conference after India clinched the series.

The Australian bowling attack, comprising the pace duo of Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood, was taken to the cleaners by the Indian batters.
