As Nick Kyrgios rambled through a lengthy list of people he wanted to thank Sunday after ending a three-year title drought by claiming the trophy at the site of his last triumph, the Citi Open, he made a mention of the match officials.
Nick Kyrgios beat Japan's Yoshihito Nishioka 6-4 6-3 in the final of the Citi Open. The win is the Australian’s first ATP Tour title since he beat Daniil Medvedev 7–6 7–6 in the final of the same event in 2019. It is the 27-year-old’s seventh career title after wins at Tokyo, Atlanta and Marseille in 2016, Brisbane in 2017 and Washington and Acapulco in 2019.

The 27-year-old Australian downed 96th-ranked left-hander Nishioka 6-4, 6-3 for his first ATP title since capturing the 2019 Washington crown. "It's emotional for me to be back here again and claim another title," Kyrgios said. Kyrgios, who lost to Novak Djokovic last month in his first Grand Slam final, made back-to-back tour-level finals for the first time in his career and didn't allow a service break all week. "It's just very emotional for me to see where I was at last year to now. It's just an incredible transformation. "I've been in some really dark places," Kyrgios said.
Marcelo Arevalo became the first player from central America to claim a Grand Slam title when he paired up with Jean-Julien Rojer of the Netherlands to win the men's doubles final at the French Open on Saturday. Arevalo and Rojer, seeded 12th, beat Croatian Ivan Dodig and American Austin Krajicek 6-7(4) 7-6(5) 6-3 after saving three match points and converting their only break chance. At last year's U.S. Open, Arevalo was the first player from central America to take part in a final at a major.
The French Open is close to finding out the first of its two singles champions, and Day 14 sees Iga Swiatek take on Coco Gauff on Saturday afternoon to decide the 2022 women's champion. Swiatek is the women's No. 1 and is looking to celebrate that achievement with her second Grand Slam victory after winning at Roland-Garros in 2020.
