Under Rohit Sharma, the Indian cricket team is going through a great phase. It defeated Pakistan and Hong Kong and is in the Super 4 stage of the Asia Cup 2022. All eyes are on Rohit Sharma to lead India to an ICC title with the T20 World Cup starting in two months' time. Overall, it will be a crucial phase for the veteran batter. And as India gears up for its Super 4 match on Sunday, Rohit kept the fans guessing with an Instagram post, with the caption: "Butterflies in my stomach. A debut of a kind #TrailerOut4thSept #MegaBlockbuster."
The Indian team management decided to drop Rishabh Pant from the its playing XI for Asia Cup 2022 opener against Pakistan on Sunday. Dinesh Karthik was chosen as the wicket-keeper for the match and this sparked a lot of conversation among fans and pundits alike. Pant though was drafted into the XI for the match against Hong Kong but he didn't get a chance to bat.
Suryakumar Yadav played a scintillating knock on Wednesday against Hong Kong to help India qualify for the Super 4 stage of Asia Cup 2022. He walked in to bat with India facing the threat of putting up a below par total after an unusually slow innings by KL Rahul. The Indian number 4 hit six boundaries and six sixes to power his way to an unbeaten 68 off 26 balls and helped India post 192/2 in 20 overs.
Team India booked their passage to the Super 4 stage of the Asia Cup after wins over Pakistan and Hong Kong in their Group A fixtures. There were many positives for the Indian cricket team in the group stage, while some areas need to be addressed ahead of the Super 4 fixtures. Hardik Pandya produced an all-round masterclass against Pakistan, while Suryakumar Yadav dazzled with the bat against Hong Kong. With India safely through to the next round of the Asia Cup, here are the hits and misses for the team in the group stage:
Hard-hitting batter Suryakumar Yadav said he is flexible enough to bat anywhere in the Indian T20 team, having turned out for the Men in Blue in various roles, including opening the innings. Suryakumar scored a scintillating 26-ball 68 not out to pave the way for India's 40-run win over Hong Kong and sail into the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup on Wednesday. On a two-paced wicket, Suryakumar, who came in to bat at number 4, played a wide range of shots which included six sixes and as many fours.
Hong Kong batsman Kinchit Shah usually handles the family diamond business and he sparkled in a losing cause against India, studding an innings of 30 with two fours and a six in the T20 Asia Cup. The Mumbai-born vice-captain, who proposed to his girlfriend after the match in Dubai on Wednesday, is part of an eclectic mix of pizza delivery men and university students representing Hong Kong against Asia's cricket giants in the UAE this week. The talented band of expatriates have been on the road since June, culminating in a berth in the main draw of the six-nation Asia Cup after winning all three qualifying matches. They lost to top-ranked India by 40 runs on Wednesday, but only after a fight in their chase of 193. Their next match against Pakistan on Friday in Sharjah could be their last in the tournament, but skipper Nizakat Khan said they had been flooded with praise from loved ones in their adopted home. "We have lots of support back in Hong Kong. We have lots of messages from family and friends," said Pakistan-born Nizakat. "It's a big learning curve for us to play against India and Pakistan. We take something out of these two games and hopefully the players learn a lot."
Suryakumar Yadav makes unconventional look cool and his attacking instincts makes him a force to reckon with for the Twenty20 World Cup later this year in Australia. Suryakumar smashed 68 off 26 balls to lift India from 94-2 in 13 overs to post a mammoth 192-2 against minnows Hong Kong in the Asia Cup Twenty20 tournament on Wednesday.
