Afghanistan assistant coach has condemned the clash between Afghanistan and Pakistan fans after the team's defeat on Wednesday while addressing a press conference. Raees Ahmadzai expressed his disappointment over the behaviour of his players and the fans after the team's defeat against Pakistan in a last-over thriller. After losing their first match against India at the Asia Cup, Pakistan cricket team has been on a roll. With two successive wins in the Super 4 stage, Pakistan have sealed a berth in the final along with Sri Lanka. There were several top performances in the batting and bowling departments and young pacer Shahnawaz Dahani's performance was one of the highlights. He played in two group A matches was good on both occassions. Against India, he returned with figures of 4-0-29-0 and against Hong Kong 2-1-7-1. After that, he has missed the Super 4 stage due to a side-strain.
With both teams already set to meet in the final of the Asia Cup, the final Super 4 match between Sri Lanka and Pakistan is effectively a dead rubber, but will play out as a prelude to the summit clash on Sunday. Both teams will go into the match having won their last three matches -- with India and Afghanistan on both teams' win-lists. While Sri Lanka won their two Super 4 matches with relative ease, Pakistan almost faltered in a low-scoring chase against Afghanistan, but pacer Naseem Shah turned out to be their saviour with two last-over sixes to take them over the line. With the final also set to be played at the same venue, the match will offer an opportunity to both teams to get a feel of the pitch, ground and conditions.
Virat Kohli, who struck his maiden T20I century during Asia Cup match against Afghanistan, should continue to bat as an opener going into World Cup alongside Rohit Sharma. With Rohit Shama opting out of inconsequential contest against Afghanistan, Kohli opened the batting with Rahul. The question was loaded because if Kohli opens the batting, it would mean that Rahul, whose T20 batting approach is already under the scanner, would have to sit out. "Toh kya mai khud baith jaun? (So then should I sit out?)," a perplexed Rahul, obviously not one bit amused, counter-questioned. The Indian vice-captain firmly believes that Kohli is not dependent on opening slot to get a huge score.
Pakistan have hit a purple patch in T20 cricket and it is reflected in the rankings table.
