The Women's Premier League (WPL) auction concluded successfully on Monday in Mumbai, with the 5 franchises splashing a whopping INR 59.5 crore on 87 players at the event. It was India's Smriti Mandhana who earned the biggest pay package, going to Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 3.40 crore while India captain Harmanpreet Kaur joined Mumbai Indians for Rs 1.80 crore. Other than the players, however, even the auctioneer Mallika Sagar became a talking point for the perfection with which she conducted the auction.

All 15 Indian players in the World Cup squad were sold with 10 of them crossing the Rs 1 crore-mark.
Mumbai Indians picked up Indian women's cricket team skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and paid a record amount for England international Nat Sciver in the WPL auction on Monday. While Harmanpreet went for Rs 1.8 crore, Sciver went on to become the joint highest overseas player alongside Australia all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner as she was paid Rs 3.2 crore. Along with Harmanpreet, two other India internationals – Pooja Vastrakar and Yastika Bhatia – also attracted substantial price tags.
As the Women's Premier League gears up for a grand beginning, all the five cricket franchises have finalised their teams at the first ever player auction, which took place on 13 February in Mumbai. Gujarat Giants owned by Adani Sportsline has signed up an exciting line-up including the likes of Ashleigh Gardner (3.2 Cr), Beth Mooney (2 Cr), Harleen Deol (40 Lakhs) and Sneh Rana (75 Lakh). After a heated bidding war, the Gujarat Giants opened their account with the pick of Australian all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner for INR 3.2 crore, the joint second highest at the Auction. The 3-time World Champion has been one of the pillars of strength for Australia, and opened her 2023 T20 World Cup with a 5/12 against New Zealand.

Indian women's cricket team opener Smriti Mandhana became the costliest cricketer in the Women's Premier League (WPL) auction as she was acquired by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 3.4 crore on Monday. The star India opener was the first player to go under the hammer and she quickly sparked a bidding war between RCB and Mumbai Indians. The bidding went on for quite some time before the Bangalore franchise was able to make a marquee signing. In a video published by Jio Sports on Twitter, Mandhana was seen watching the auction with her India teammates and celebrations erupted once the bidding was over and she was congratulated by all the other players.
