Former England captain Michael Vaughan lavished praises on batter Joe Root after the latter stepped down as the skipper of the Three Lions Test team. Batter Joe Root on Friday stepped down as the captain of England's Test team, following the loss in the series against West Indies. "He gave it everything with very little support for the Red ball team under his watch .. then he had to deal with Covid times .. he still is and will the games best role model for many many years .. now enjoy being the senior player for many more seasons @root66," tweeted Michael Vaughan.
Joe Root on Friday stepped down as England Men's Test skipper and this decision comes after the side lost the Test series against Australia and West Indies earlier this year. Root holds the record for winning most number of matches in the longest format as England captain (27) and he is ahead of Michael Vaughan and Andrew Strauss. As soon as Root's decision was made public by the England and Wales Cricket Board, Root was congratulated on a successful tenure as captain of the Three Lions. Former England captain Michael Vaughan also congratulated Root for giving it all as a captain with very little support for the red-ball side.
Joe Root is stepping down as England's Test captain, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced on Friday. Root's decision comes after the 1-0 Test series defeat to West Indies last month, and a 4-0 Ashes loss to Australia. "After returning from the Caribbean tour and having time to reflect, I have decided to step down as England men's Test captain," Root said. "It has been the most challenging decision I have had to make in my career but having discussed this with my family and those closest to me, I know the timing is right. "I am immensely proud to have captained my country and will look back on the past five years with enormous pride. It has been an honour to have done the job and to have been a custodian of what is the pinnacle of English cricket."
Joe Root on Friday announced his decision to step down as England's Test captain. This comes following England's Test series losses against Australia and the West Indies. In the Ashes, England faced a 0-4 drubbing and then the side lost the three-Test series against West Indies 0-1. Root is the most successful England Test skipper after having won 27 Tests, that puts him ahead of Michael Vaughan, Sir Alastair Cook, and Sir Andrew Strauss.
