Ad Bai produced breaks of 59 and 75 with Thomond compiling 76 in the fifth frame, but it was the Chinese player who held her nerve superbly to edge a taut decider by two points.
Women's British Open champion Bai Yulu advanced to the last 64 of Event Two at Q School in Leicester courtesy of a 4-1 win over Zac Cosker in the first round. Cosker won the first frame but shipped the next four with this year's World Championship finalist finishing with breaks of 50 and 61 to seal her progress and a match against Joshua Thomond or Jamie Curtis-Barrett for a last-32 spot at the Morningside Arena on Sunday evening.

Jimmy White produced a vintage finish as a closing break of 132 saw him complete a 4-3 win over world No. 68 Yuan Sijun to qualify for the Northern Ireland Open. The former Masters and UK champion led 3-1 boosted by an opening knock of 75 in the first frame, but Yuan fought back to level at 3-3 with an 83 break in the fifth frame forcing the deciding frame in Wigan.
