BCCI Give Major Instruction To IPL Franchises On Overseas Players' Availability, 7 Teams To Be Affected

The BCCI on Thursday instructed the IPL franchises to release eight WTC-bound South African players latest by May 26, making them unavailable for the play-offs. In an advisory to teams, the BCCI also informed that the West Indies players will be available for the remainder of the tournament which was suspended last week due to the India-Pakistan military conflict. Following the ceasefire announcement, it was decided to resume the IPL from May 17 with the final pushed back to June 3 from May 25, clashing with international commitments of players from South Africa, England and the West Indies.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises were handed a massive boost as South Africa announced that they will be cutting back preparation time ahead of the World Test Championship (WTC) Final against Australia. While SA authorities first said that all players need to return home by May 26, they changed their statement and said that training for the game will now take place from June 3. “Correction – the squad will resume training for the game on June 3rd. The matter is being discussed higher up than me. At ground level, we are focusing on preps for the WTC final,” Cricket South Africa (CSA) Director Of Cricket Enoch Nkwe said according to Sydney Morning Herald.

The extension of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season due to the Indo-Pak conflict has resulted in a big headache for franchises. While the message from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is to get all overseas players back for the resumption of the league, Cricket South Africa has told its players to return home by May 26, as was the initial agreement when the IPL final was to be held on May 25. Though talks are still going on between the two bosses of the boards, CSA is reportedly unwilling to budge on its stance.

With a net run-rate of -0.47, merely winning three games might not be enough for Pant and his men to make it to the play-offs. "The dream is still alive. If we can win the next three matches, we can definitely turn around and do amazing things," Pant said at the post match presentation ceremony.
