Delhi Capitals won the toss and elected to bowl first against Lucknow Super Giants in fourth match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium. For Delhi Capitals, KL Rahul is missing today's clash due to personal reasons. According to a report in Cricbuzz, KL Rahul, expecting his first child, has received special permission to skip the match.
Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants will be entering a new leadership phase when they square off against each other in their first match of IPL 2025 on Monday in Visakhapatnam. Delhi Capitals will be led by all-rounder Axar Patel while LSG will be playing under Rishabh Pant, who captained the Delhi-based franchise in 2024. During the mega auctions, LSG let go off their regular skipper KL Rahul and roped in wicketkeeper Pant at a record-breaking price of Rs 27 crore. On the other hand, Rahul joined Delhi for Rs 14 crore.
With their respective leaders switching camps and squads undergoing major overhauls, both Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants, under new captains, will be eager to make a strong start to their IPL campaign when they face off in Visakhapatnam on Monday. For a second year running, the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Stadium here will host two home matches for Delhi Capitals. Pant, who had been a Delhi Capitals' player throughout his IPL career and also their captain, left the franchise ahead of the mega auction last year and was snapped up by LSG for a record price of Rs 27 crore.
Lucknow Super Giants, the team that made its Indian Premier League debut in 2022, has had a good performance so far. The side began its journey with a playoff finish and replicated the performance the very next year. The 2024 season, however, saw LSG finish at the 7th spot. The side released its captain KL Rahul and went on to pay a whopping sum of Rs 27 crore at IPL 2025 auction to acquire Rishabh Pant. The southpaw was later named captain ahead of the upcoming season.
Former India left-handed batter Suresh Raina believes Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant should bat at number four as it would allow him to have a crack at finishing the innings in IPL 2025 season. Pant, the left-handed wicketkeeper-batter, did not play for India in the ODIs against England and in the victorious Champions Trophy campaign, as KL Rahul was the first-choice wicketkeeper-batter. Moreover, with Sanju Samson making centuries against Bangladesh and South Africa in T20Is, it means that Pant has gone a bit down in the pecking order in the shortest format as well. In IPL 2025, as Lucknow Super Giants skipper, Pant will need a terrific season with the bat to be back in the India T20I set-up.
Ahead of starting their IPL 2025 campaign, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper Rishabh Pant said his endeavour is to create an environment in the side where people coming in can express themselves freely. LSG are set to play their first match of IPL 2025 season against Delhi Capitals, a team which Pant captained previously, on March 24 at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. “We want to create a place where people can come and express themselves. It's just a very simple idea. It's easier to say than to do it because it requires a lot of effort from each and every individual.”
LAHORE: Rachin Ravindra and Kane Williamson struck hundreds as New Zealand eased to a 50-run win over South Africa in Lahore on Wednesday to set up a rematch with India in the Champions Trophy final.
South Africa and New Zealand will face off in the second semi-final in Lahore on Wednesday. While South Africa have had an easy route to the knockout stage, New Zealand started well with wins against host Pakistan and Bangladesh before crumbling against the Indian spinners in Dubai. The second semi-final will essentially be a contest between the two best fast bowling units on the best batting track in the tournament.
