International Cricket Council (ICC) will soon re-introduce neutral umpires despite the Covid-19 pandemic providing an opportunity to give home umpires more exposure, chairman Greg Barclay said on Monday. "There were some benefits (of Covid) for cricket," Barclay told reporters in Dhaka. "One of them was the chance to use umpires at home.
Bangladesh pacer Khaled Ahmed has been fined 15 per cent of his match fee after he breached the ICC Code of Conduct during the second Test against South Africa. Ahmed was found guilty of breaching Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to "throwing a ball at or near a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other third person in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an international match."

Bangladesh left-arm spin bowler Taijul Islam took three wickets and prevented South Africa from dominating the first day of the second Test at St George's Park in Gqeberha on Friday. Dean Elgar (70), Keegan Petersen (64) and Temba Bavuma (67) made half-centuries as South Africa made 278 for five after winning the toss. Taijul took three for 77 in 32 overs. He bowled unchanged from before lunch until after tea in a first spell of two for 63 in 24 overs.
South African Test captain Dean Elgar on Thursday defended his team against allegations of "unbearable sledging" during the first Test against Bangladesh in Durban. He said the Bangladesh players needed to "harden up" if they wanted to play the game at a high level. Speaking ahead of the second Test, which starts at St George's Park on Friday, Elgar said South Africa played the game hard but stopped short of swearing or using foul language towards their opponents. Bangladesh cricket operations chief Jalal Yunus said on Tuesday that his board would make an official complaint to the International Cricket Council about what he described as biased umpiring and the "sledging" of the home team.
