Sanju Samson's talent, and potential if you could term it that at the age of 29, is beyond reproach. An elegant stroke player with the ability to take any bowling attack in the world to the cleaners, Samson has, deservedly, earned a cult following for himself, mostly based on his performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Having made his IPL debut back in 2013, the wicket-keeper batsman has aged like fine wine in the domestic franchisee-based cricket league, getting better and better with every passing season. So far, Samson has amassed 3,888 runs in 152 IPL outings with an average of close to 30 and a strike rate of 137.19.
Sanju Samson first burst on to the international cricket scene back in 2015 in a T20I against Zimbabwe. But for eight long years, Sanju Samson had to wait for his maiden international ton, which ended on Thursday in an ODI against South Africa. Coming to bat at No. 3, Sanju Samson curbed his natural attacking instincts to time his innings well. He scored 108 off 114 balls, hitting three sixes and six fours. Courtesy his century India reached 296/8 in 50 overs. Then, India easily scalped the South African wickets to pocket the series 2-1.
Zimbabwe Cricket said on Thursday that two national players had been suspended for "recreational drug use". "The concerned players, Wesley Madhevere and Brandon Mavuta, both tested positive for a banned recreational drug in an out-of-competition case recorded during a recent in-house doping test," the board said in a statement. Madhevere and Mavuta have been suspended "with immediate effect" until a hearing is held on the breach of anti-doping rules. The board did not say what drug was involved nor when they had failed the tests.

Zimbabwe coach Dave Houghton has resigned after the country's failure to reach next year's T20 World Cup, the national board said Wednesday. "The Zimbabwe Cricket Board has accepted Dave Houghton's resignation from his position as head coach of the Zimbabwe senior men's national team with immediate effect," the board said in a statement. "Houghton said he had 'lost the change room' after 18 months in charge and felt that a 'new voice' was needed to take the team forward," the statement added. His resignation letter was sent just ahead of a board meeting Wednesday to look into the World Cup campaign. Zimbabwe lost to Namibia and Uganda at a recent qualifying tournament. Zimbabwe have also just been beaten in a limited overs series against Ireland.
The third ODI between India and South Africa will see the two teams battle it out for the bragging rights, with the series nicely poised at 1-1. Boland Park in Paarl will host this match on December 21, scheduled to begin at 4:30 PM IST. India got the better of the hosts in the opening ODI by eight wickets. Batting first, the Proteas were bundled out for 116 courtesy of superb bowling by Indian pace duo Arshdeep Singh (5/37) and Avesh Khan (4/27). Thereafter, Sai Sudharsan scored a half-century (55*) on his international debut to cap off a perfect day for the visitors.
