LONDON : England have named two uncapped players in Essex duo Sam Cook and Jordan Cox in the squad for the one-off test match against Zimbabwe at Trent Bridge later this month, with the cricket board (ECB) announcing the 13-player list on Friday.
England are reportedly considering former New Zealand pacer Tim Southee as their fast-bowling consultant ahead of a home summer season that includes a marquee five-Test series against India. The 36-year-old is one of the contenders to replace veteran pacer James Anderson, who took up the role after retiring from Test cricket last year but is unavailable this summer due to playing commitments with county side Lancashire. Southee had called time on his red-ball career in December, finishing with 391 Test wickets, second only to Sir Richard Hadlee on 431.
Bangladesh opener Shadman Islam smashed a century in the second Test against Zimbabwe on Tuesday, giving the hosts a lead of 64 runs at the end of the second day with three wickets in hand. Bangladesh were 291-7 at the close, with Mehidy Hasan Miraz (16) and Taijul Islam (5) remaining not out, in response to Zimbabwe's first innings total of 227. Shadman recorded a career-best knock of 120 and partnered with Anamul Haque in a first-wicket stand of 118 runs, only the 10th time that Bangladesh's openers had passed the 100-run mark in Tests. Despite Shadman's century, the other batsmen failed to exploit the dry and slow surface at Chattogram after a good start.

Delhi Capitals pacer Mohit Sharma recently revealed the nickname which was given to him by Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni. The 36-year-old pacer began his IPL career in 2013 with CSK and went to play for the franchise for three years before parting ways in 2016. Mohit played 47 matches for CSK and scalped 57 wickets for them. During his stint with the five-time champions, he also made his India debut in the ODIs against Zimbabwe in 2013.

Former Zimbabwe cricketer Pommie Mbangwa, who was in the commentary box, said: “They must have deliberated a great deal about the team. This looks like the decision was taken right here at the ground. Stoinis has his gloves and bat there. He is just getting the bad news there. Horrible news. It's tough to drop anyone.”
