Sri Lanka bowling all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga on Tuesday announced his retirement from Test cricket to extend his limited-overs playing career. The 26-year-old player made his Test debut in December 2020 against South Africa and has featured in only four Tests. His last Test was against Bangladesh at home, more than two years ago in April 2021. Hasaranga informed Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) of his decision to retire on Tuesday and the board accepted it.
Ahead of travelling to Ireland, pacer Prasidh Krishna bowled at full tilt for Mysuru Warriors against Hubli Tigers in the KSCA Maharaja Trophy T20 tournament in Bengaluru on Sunday. Prasidh is scheduled to leave for Ireland on August 15 from Mumbai along with other Indian players including captain Jasprit Bumrah. India will play three T20Is against Ireland on August 18, 20 and 23 at Malahide, Dublin. However, Prasidh utilised the KSCA T20 tournament to hone his skills and further tune his body to the demands of the game before his departure.
Gillingham have completed the signing of Macauley Bonne.
With the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) and 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on the horizon, Bafana Bafana will begin preparations with four international friendlies in September and October.
The Indian cricket squad for the Ireland Tour had to welcome additions - one was Jasprit Bumrah and the other one was Prasidh Krishna. Both were battling injuries. Krishna feels that injuries are a part of the fast bowler's journey as BCCI announced that he will return soon to on-field action for the Indian team after the spine injury in August last. Krishna who was one of the contenders for India's continent for ICC Men's Cricket World Cup went straight down the pecking order after suffering consecutive injuries.
One of the BCCI's most debated decisions is not allow active Indian cricketers in overseas leagues. Retired Indian players though can play in overseas leagues. The BCCI has been mulling a cooling-off period which would prevent players from joining overseas leagues right after their retirement. However, no decision has been taken yet. A cooling-off period for retired Indian cricketers who want to play in overseas T20 leagues would be "uncomfortable and unfair", reckons former India international Robin Uthappa. Uthappa, who retired from international and IPL cricket last year, was recently part of the T10 league in Zimbabwe. He also took part in the ILT20 in the UAE.
Royal Challengers Bangalore made a big change in the team management, hiring Andy Flower as the head coach after the former Zimbabwe batter decided to leave fellow Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Lucknow Super Giants. The switch quickly became a talking-point in the cricketing fraternity, with fans contemplating if Flower could be the man to lead RCB to new heights in the IPL. After the Bengaluru side announced Flower's appointment, LSG also took to Twitter and posted a tweet that got the internet buzzing.
