The Indian cricket team think-tank's urge to play more all-rounders in recent years has got a lot to do with the current crop of top-order batters not rolling their arms over unlike some of their illustrious seniors from the bygone era. The Indian team's desperation to field bits and pieces players like Axar Patel or Washington Sundar is based on two counts -- batters not bowling enough and tail-enders not displaying enough gumption with the willow. So what has changed? "I think it could be because of the rule change. Suddenly you have gone from four fielders inside the ring to five fielders inside the ring. I think that has drastically changed the ability of part-time bowler to be able to bowl in the middle phase," Dravid said in defence of his team in which none among Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shreyas Iyer or Suryakumar Yadav bowl.
Veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin made a sensational comeback to the Indian cricket team during the first ODI match against Australia on Friday but according to his Tamil Nadu teammate Dinesh Karthik, he could have made his comeback much earlier. During a recent interaction, the wicket-keeper batter revealed that he was considered as the replacement for the injured Axar Patel in the Asia Cup 2023 final against Sri Lanka but Ashwin declined the call-up citing match fitness issues.

Enter neighbouring Poland, which votes next month. Warsaw is one of Ukraine’s biggest backers… to a point. The Polish prime minister announced a halt to weapons exports amid a pre-election row over cheap Ukrainian grain exports. Is this simply political grandstanding or proof that NATO and Europe's unwavering support is not so unwavering? After a spring counteroffensive that's turned to summer and now fall, time is certainly on Vladimir Putin's side as Ukraine's adversary digs in for the long haul. As the carpet bombing of cities continues, as the casualties mount, what's Zelensky's plan?
Ravichandran Ashwin's ODI comeback made the headline when the squad for the India vs Australia series was announced on Monday. India captain Rohit Sharma and BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar made it clear that, Ravichandran Ashwin was being called for the India vs Australia three-ODI series, after Axar Patel got injured during the Asia Cup. Indian cricket team head coach Rahul Dravud has made it clear that the India vs Australia series is no trial for Ravichandran Ashwin.
After successfully clinching the Asia Cup 2023 title with a dominating win over Sri Lanka, Team India is all set to face Australia in the three-match ODI series. The first ODI match will be played on Friday at the IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali. For the first two matches, the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Kuldeep Yadav, and Hardik Pandya have been rested. In the absence of skipper Rohit, wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul will be donning the captain's hat. Shreyas Iyer's dodgy match-fitness will be put to ultimate test while Suryakumar Yadav will be desperate to alter a dismal ODI record.
