Ruthless world number two Aryna Sabalenka warned Sunday she is stronger now than when she won her maiden Grand Slam in Australia as her imposing march towards another title gathered steam. The Belarusian was in total control against unseeded American Amanda Anisimova on Margaret Court Arena, blazing home 6-3, 6-2 in 70 minutes to make the quarter-finals. Inter Miami suffered an early blow ahead of the new MLS season with Argentine winger Facundo Farias likely to miss the entire 2024 season with a serious knee injury, the club said on Saturday. Farias, who plays in attack along with Lionel Messi, suffered the injury during the team's opening pre-season friendly of the year, a goalless draw against the El Salvador national team on Friday. Farias was carried off during the game at the Estadio Cuscatlan and the team said he had suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury and would need surgery in the coming weeks.

Taylor Fritz Downs Stefanos Tsitsipas To Set Up Novak Djokovic Clash At Australian Open

American 12th seed Taylor Fritz dumped last year's Australian Open runner-up Stefanos Tsitsipas out of the tournament on Sunday to set up a quarter-final with defending champion Novak Djokovic. There was little to separate them in the opening two sets but Fritz stepped up a gear to beat the Greek seventh seed 7-6 (7/3), 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 in a shade over three hours. He said the key was "just trusting my shots" and that he had served well throughout. Fritz trails Djokovic 8-0 in head-to-heads, but he said he had improved and was relishing another battle against the top seed.
