Could Wout van Aert (Jumbo-Visma) actually win the yellow jersey at a future edition of the Tour de France? That was the question posed on The Breakaway after the curtain call at the 2022 Tour, which saw the Belgian’s team-mate Jonas Vingegaard crowned champion after a thrilling three-week battle with Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates). Ad/> Van Aert has been the rider of the Tour with a string of devastating attacks and selfless teamwork helping deliver six stage wins for Jumbo, including three for himself and the green jersey.
Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) will already be thinking about the 2023 Tour de France after seeing his three-peat dream snuffed out by Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma), according to Bradley Wiggins. Pogacar held the yellow jersey until Stage 11, where he was bludgeoned by a sensational double attack from Jumbo duo Vingegaard and Primoz Roglic.
Tadej Pogacar said he could take many positives from his three stage victories and finishing second behind Danish rider Jonas Vingegaard in the 2022 Tour de France.
A wonderful edition of the Tour de France came to a close as the sun set over Paris with outgoing champion Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) putting in a spirited attack on the final lap, Jumbo-Visma crossing the line to celebrate Jonas Vingegaard’s overall win, and Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck) storming the final sprint by a number of bike lengths. Denmark’s Vingegaard, 25, lapped up the applause as he came home arm-in-arm with his team-mates – including the green jersey Wout van Aert, who opted not to contest the final sprint that he won 12 months ago.
PARIS: After winning seven of eight titles from 2012-2019, Ineos-Grenadiers have been kicked out of contention since Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard seized power in brutal fashion and there is little chance that the British outfit will regain their crown in the near future.
