Just as Week 1 of the college football season brought marquee top-10 clashes, Week 2 presents fans with an assortment of intriguing rivalry games and road trips.
There is only one matchup between two ranked teams in Week 2, as No. 15 Michigan head to Norman for a showdown with No. 18 Oklahoma. Michigan defeated New Mexico 34-17 in Ann Arbor, while Oklahoma routed Illinois State 35-3 as QB John Mateer threw for 392 yards and Keontez Lewis hauled in two touchdowns.
With Week 1 in the books, the college football season shifts into full gear as contenders begin to separate from pretenders. September is often when momentum is built, hype meets reality, and early missteps can linger all season. From blue-blood clashes such as Michigan-Oklahoma to rivalry battles in Ames, Iowa, and Columbia, Missouri, Week 2 brings both tradition and intrigue. Quarterbacks are already defining the season's storylines, and new coordinators and transfers continue to shape the national conversation.
What's better than watching football? Watching football and winning money!
College football Week 1 gave us a glimpse into what we can expect from some of the top teams.
The thing about first impressions is you can't take them back. Some are underwhelming, like Arch Manning's at Ohio State or Nico Iamaleava's at UCLA. Some could be a harbinger for big things ahead, like Florida State steamrolling Alabama following a 2-10 season in 2024, or LSU finally winning an opener under Brian Kelly against the toughest Week 1 competition it has faced. Jackson Arnold had a tough first go-around at Oklahoma, but his first impression with Auburn left Tigers fans tickled.
Michigan linebacker Jaishawn Barham will be suspended for the first half of this week's game at No. 18 Oklahoma after a targeting call against him was upheld following appeal.
The College Football Playoff is still a long way away, but there was still plenty of action in Week 1 that could come into consideration at the end of the season.
