For all of the talk about the 12-team College Football Playoff being a borderline SEC-Big Ten invitational, consider that one-loss Boise State is now in the same club as Oregon, Texas and Miami — in position to earn a first-round bye as one of the four highest-ranked conference champions.
The Oregon Ducks remained No. 1 in the third set of College Football Playoff rankings, which were released on Tuesday night. The Ducks, who currently sit at 11-0 overall and 8-0 in Big Ten play, were followed by Ohio State at No. 2 and Texas at No. 3.Penn State and Indiana round out the top five teams.
The latest College Football Playoff rankings were released Tuesday night with the top five remaining the same as last week. No. 2 Ohio State (+300) remains the betting favorite to win the national championship. After the Buckeyes is No. 1 Oregon (+450) — even after a major scare by Wisconsin on Saturday — followed by No. 3 Texas (+500) and No. 10 Georgia (+500). No. 4 Penn State is 20-1 and No. 5 Indiana is 25-1.
